The Covid19 lockdown gave me the perfect opportunity to revisit and explore some of the incredible, inspirational artwork I had studied and sketched in Florence last year. Based on the statues, carvings and memorials created by master craftsmen and artists and using traditional materials and techniques dating back to the Renaissance, I created this series of Silverpoint drawings on sepia-tinted ground.
Silverpoint is a drawing technique that uses a silver-tipped instrument. The silver deposited on the prepared ground tarnishes and changes over time. The shift that occurs is part of the beauty of the finished piece.
SilverWorks by Angela Clarke will be open to the public on Saturday July 4th 2020 in ClarkeArt, Village Centre, Ratoath, Co. Meath and by appointment after that. A selection of pieces from the exhibition are featured in the gallery below. All pieces are available for purchase at ClarkeArt.
